Stephen's Case: Summary of Police Allegations

Several police officers were dispatched to a house party to respond to an assault that was taking place. Upon arrival at the scene, a reporting officer noticed a large group of teens leaving the residence. The driver of a taxi cab approached the police officer and said he had been assaulted by a group of young males who had been at the house party.

Initially, the taxi driver was unable to provide a description of his attackers. The police officer remarked that the taxi driver was upset and shaken, with visible injuries to his face. The taxi driver told the police officer that he had picked up a fare of three young women, and was waiting for a fourth before leaving the house. He said he exited his car to remove ice from his windshield wipers and observed a young male being helped out of the house by two older males – the father of the party’s host and one of his friends. The taxi driver said the young male was being aggressive towards the two older males before he started to bang on the cab window. According to the taxi driver, after he asked the young male to stop, he was punched in the face. The taxi driver said that afterwards, a second young male punched him in the face, and then he was repeatedly kicked and punched on the ground. He said the males that assaulted him fled on foot.

The police officer was given descriptions of the male who was escorted from the house. The police officer concluded from the investigation that the identity of this male could not be confirmed, however, the officer remarked that it was believed that Stephen was “subject 1” in this incident. Stephen was charged with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.
