Summary of the Police Allegations against Shannon

On a morning in November, police were called to a car accident in North Grenville. At the scene, officers saw that a van had collided with a hydro pole. A police officer saw Shannon and identified her as the driver of the van. The officer said that Shannon said that the driver had swerved into the pole to avoid hitting a deer.  Shannon told officers that she hit the pole while driving back to Ottawa from a friend’s home.

An officer that spoke with Shannon detected an odour of alcohol coming from the vehicle and asked Shannon about it. She replied by saying that she had been drinking alcohol the night before and had only been able to get four hours of sleep.

After an officer demanded a breath test with a road side screening device, Shannon failed the test. She was then arrested she said that she did not have a lawyer. At that point, the officer told her he would contact Duty Counsel on her behalf.

Shannon was transported to the police detachment, where she spoke with Duty Counsel and performed and failed another breath test.

Throughout the morning, Shannon also asked a police officer to check her purse for an amount of money. While searching the bag, the officer did not find the money but found a small amount of marijuana.  Shannon was charged with over 80, impaired operation of a motor vehicle and possession of marijuana.
