Peter's Case: Summary of Police Allegations
Police officers arrived at the junction of Innes Road and Hwy. 417 after hearing that a vehicle had collided with a light pole.
When officers arrived, they saw a red car parked on the median between the eastbound highway on-ramp and Innes Rd. The officers observed paramedics attending to Peter in an ambulance and spoke with a witness. The witness said that he he had seen Peter drive his car through an intersection, cross over the road median and collide with a street light. The witness also told police that he parked his close to Peter’s car after the collision and then watched Peter exit the car and stumble away. On foot, the witness followed Peter until paramedics arrived.
The paramedics convinced Peter to come to an ambulance for assessment. The paramedics said that Peter agreed and stated that he was drunk. According to paramedics, he later said that he had consumed 6 beers at a bar earlier in the night.
Police officers arrived at the scene and observed an odour of alcohol. The officers asked Peter if he was the driver of the car that had collided with the light standard. Peter said he was. When the officers asked him if he had been drinking, he responded “I’m drunk”. He registered an “F”, or fail, on the screening device was arrested for Over 80. Later in the night, Andrew failed two more breath tests. After spending time in a cell, he was released with a promise to appear.
