Daniel's Case: Summary of Police Allegations
Police received a call from a woman who said that one of her neighbours, Daniel’s wife, was at her residence with her 22 month old child and that she had just been assaulted. Two officers attended the residence and spoke with Daniel’s wife. She briefly told the officers what happened and accompanied the officers back to her home to see the damage that had been done. The woman’s father arrived at the house and the officers were ready to drive her to the station to record a statement. Daniel’s brother drove by the scene and spoke to Daniel’s wife. He was speaking with Daniel on his cell phone and told Daniel’s wife that Daniel wanted to speak with her. One of the police officer’s on the scene spoke with Daniel and advised him to turn himself in.
At the police station, the woman provided a videotaped statement. In it, she said that she and Daniel had been together for 11 years and married for 2. She explained that they have a young son together and that she was pregnant with their second child. She said that she had suspected Daniel was cheating on her.
On the day of the incident, Daniel’s wife had confirmed that Daniel was cheating on her and she said she had felt that the other woman’s husband should know what was happening. She sent the man a Facebook message explaining that his wife was having an affair with Daniel. After hearing that his wife had sent this message, Daniel called her and threatened to kill her. He then went to their house and demanded to be let in. After she unlocked the door, Daniel kicked it in, grabbed his wife by the hand and took her cell phone. He then broke a fish tank and the phone. As he went to the second floor of the house, his wife tried to stop him by grabbing his shirt. She said that Daniel then shoved her and pushed her head into the wall. Once upstairs, Daniel grabbed her laptop and broke it on the floor. The woman said that afterwards, she went into their son’s room to grab their child and leave. Daniel would not let her leave, and he bit her left hand. He then left the residence.
When officers asked Daniel’s wife about past incidents, she described two incidents that resulted in two additional counts of assault charges against Daniel.
Daniel turned himself into the police detachment and was arrested by an officer at the station.
